The Trash Tenders, The Dump Ravens, the Landfill Sentinels. They hang out in every kind of weather at our garbage-gathering places. Quite content within their own complex society. Perhaps wondering when we two-leggeds are going to disappear under our excesses.
At the dump the other day they didn’t want their pictures taken. There are some with Instagram accounts but for the most part they want none of it.
While David offloaded our bags of household garbage, they mostly scattered when I exited the truck with camera in hand. A few stayed, hot and still with beaks open to cool their big bird bodies.
In Canada fossilized ravens date back 10,000 years. Long after, there will be ravens. I want to know them. I want them to know me. Perhaps they will remember some of us who had arms. Some of us who hunger for their attention.

I googled Ravens at the Dump and discovered Alex Coville’s 1965 Serigraph on Paper titled ‘Ravens at the Dump’!
I remain, Ravenous.
