Introducing the birds in the Cock Robin story. Other characters and props of importance are coming up in the next posts. (All photos are my own unless otherwise attributed, and taken here on our 48 acres in the Chilcotin Forest)
Sparrow (who admits to killing Cock Robin)
Robin (Poor Cock Robin)
Owl (who digs the grave)
Raven The ballad speaks of a Rook but we have no Rooks in North America. Rook takes the role of Parson or in this story, the Celebrant.
Lark (Great Horned Lark) Takes the role of The Clerk or Registrar of Deaths and Burials
Kite (not my photograph, we do not have Kites in this neck of the woods) Photo Credit © John Frisch birdnote.org Kite offers to transport the coffin to the grave
Linnet (Not my photo, again, no linnets here) Photo credit © Carlos Bocos Linnet offers to carry the ‘link’ or torch to light the way.
Dove (Mourning Dove) Dove who loves Robin, takes on the role of Chief Mourner
Two Wrens (Marsh Wren) Offer to carry the Pall (the cloth that covers the casket)
Thrush (Hermit Thrush) Offers to sing!
And some potential attendees and mourners for ‘All the Birds’.
